GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE PLENARY ASSEMBLY OF THE EUROMONTANA ASSOCIATION IN ITALY
In the Region of Calabria, in the Sila National Park “Biosphere Reserve” of Unesco, the annual meeting of the European Euromontana network was scheduled on 25-27 October, on the theme: smart mountains.
At this meeting, which aimed to discuss how to make our regions more attractive and future-oriented, good practices from different regions of Europe were presented.
The Biosphere Reserve of Asterousia had an active participation in the work of the meeting, represented by the chairperson of TEDA (Local Management Committee of Asterousia) Mrs Vrentzou Theano.

In the context of the meeting, apart from the presentation of good practices and work shops, which were organized during the visits to the National Park, the 150 participants (representatives from 50 different regions of Europe) were given the opportunity to see the excellent way of exploiting the natural wealth of the region ( Unesco Sila Biosphere Reserves), the absolute respect for the monument of nature by both the institutions and the inhabitants of the region.

The perfectly accessible road network on the mountain (with absolute respect for the environment), the very well organized rural tourism, the agrotourism, the farms that can be visited (with the production of high quality products, PDO and PGI), enable the inhabitants of the area to have a decent income all year round.
Very important was the speech of the representative of the European Commission, who, referring to the ” smart villages “, stressed that strong tools for the development of mountain areas will be both the leader programme and the programme for “smart villages”.
We thankall the Euromontana European Network executives for the excellent organization and especially the President of the European Euromontana Network Mr. Huanan Guttiere.
