Inclusion of Asterousia in the MAB/UNESCO Network
Asterousia has been included in the MAB/UNESCO Network. Their inclusion was initiated by the Conservation Association of Asterousia and the cooperation of the Heraklion Development Company SAE OTA and the Region of Crete. The integration effort was supported by the competent local authorities, as indicated in the attached form, and is funded by the Region of Crete under the Special Development Programme “CRETE – GREEN DEVELOPMENT”, aims first of all to inform the local population of Asterousia about the importance of the natural and cultural capital of the area, which, together with the numerous traditions, customs and traditions that survive to this day, were the characteristics on which the proposal for the inclusion of Asterousia in the MAB/UNESCO Network was based.
