Inclusion of Asterousia in the MAB/UNESCO Network
Asterousia have joined the MAB/UNESCO Network. Their inclusion took place at the initiative of the Association for the Protection of Asterousia and the cooperation of the Development of Heraklion AAE OTA and the Region of Crete. The integration effort was supported by the competent local authorities, as stated in the attached form, which is financed by the Region of Crete in the context of the Special Development Program “CRETE – GREEN DEVELOPMENT”, aims in principle to inform the local population of Asterousia about the importance of the natural and cultural capital of the region, which combined with the multitude of traditions, morals and customs that survive to this day, were the characteristics on which the proposal for the inclusion of Asterousia in the MAB/UNESCO Network was based.
